Pole position for Valentino Catalano on Sunday at Assen

News | September 3, 2023

The qualifying for Sunday's race of the Prototype Cup Germany at the TT Circuit Assen was really exciting. The lead changed again and again at the end of the session. In the end, Valentino Catalano (17/Westheim) prevailed in the Duqueine D08 with a time of 1:30.494 minutes. It was already the fourth pole position of the DKR Engineering driver in the 2023 season.

"I'm really pleased. The lap was relatively solid and could even have been a little better. Because on my very fastest lap I ran into traffic," beamed Catalano, who will share the cockpit in the race with Robin Rogalski (23/POL). "The car was super once again. I felt really comfortable. I also really like the track here in Assen."

With a gap of just 0.233 seconds, second place in qualifying went to brand colleague Jacob Erlbacher (23/Böblingen), who starts together with Courtney Crone (22/USA). It is the best qualifying result so far for his racing team Gebhardt Motorsport in the Prototype Cup Germany. Third place went to the Duqueine of table runners-up Oscar Tunjo (27/COL) and Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE, both Van Ommen Racing by DataLab), who were 0.253 seconds behind.

Current championship leaders Gary Hauser (31/LUX) and Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim, both Racing Experience) finished fourth in the Duqueine, 0.365 seconds behind. The top five was completed by brand colleagues Gustavo Kyrila (29/BRA) and Nico Göhler (20/Grasleben, both BWT Mücke Motorsport).

Sunday's Prototype Cup Germany race at the TT Circuit Assen will start at 1:45 p.m. and will be broadcast in a free livestream on youtube.com/adacmotorsports. "We definitely want to win the race. I'll try to get off to a good start straight away and build up a lead, so that my teammate Robin will then hopefully have a relaxed race," looked ahead pole-setter Rogalski.
